ALGAE HANGTAGS

Our beautiful hangtags are made from algae that, by its abnormal proliferation, was damaging the fragile ecosystem of the Venice Lagoon.

Algae are transformed through a process capable of using algae to produce ecological paper according to the principles of circular economy.

Even today, the same method is used for the creative reuse (upcycling) of overabundant algae from marine environments in other parts of the world.

ECO-COMMITMENT CARDS

One of our favorite aspect about this card is that, it can be planted. Grass seeds in this card is a commitment to invite people to give another life to all elements, reducing our impact on the planet and give back to mother earth.

Another one is the productive cycle the handmade paper that compose this cards.

It requires care and time. These are key aspects of the cooperative with wich we are working.

They who provides job and employment through occupational therapy.

There are 5 steps of creation ...

1.

Preparation of paper’s pulp, dosing and blending manually all the ingredients (50% cellulose, 50% cotton fiber, grass seeds)

2.

The pulp is spilled into a big tub full of water and then gathered with the frame to create the sheet of paper.

3.

The sheets are compressed by a machine to eliminate the excess of water and leave to dry in the air for 1-4 days, depending on the weather and humidity of air.

4.

Once dried, the sheets are pressed by rolls to smooth the surface.

5.

The last step consists in the quality check, where sheets are cleaned, refined and cut according to client’s need.
